Nuestras Acequias is a joint project of the Embudo Valley Library and the Embudo Valley Regional Acequia Association. Local acequieros David Atencio and Joe Ciddio interviewed eight life-long acequieros from the Embudo Valley. With funding from the NM Humanities Council and the For Our Future Fund of the Santa Fe Community Foundation, two audio productions were produced. All seven interviews are available at the library for checkout.
For the first time, much of the known 12,000 year-long archaeological history of the Rio Embudo Watershed is in one public place! Created in 2016 by archaeology students of Barnard College/Columbia University, this website contains two exhibits that cover the pre-colonial and post-contact (Spanish, Mexican, and American) periods up to the present. The exhibits feature artifacts excavated from the Plaza del Embudo in recent years, material from El Bosque and Picurís Pueblos, local petroglyphs from all time periods, and extensive text to situate the artifacts in the local and regional realities in which they were entangled. The contents of each exhibit are also available as printed documents in the reference section of the library.
StoryCorps visited our community in October of 2015 and conducted 18 interviews of people connected to or living in the Embudo Valley. These recording sessions were gifted to our community by the Institute for Museum and Library Services as part of the National Medal Award received by Embudo Valley Library in 2015.
Oral Histories from the Embudo Valley
Voices of Dixon is an oral history project featuring voices of residents of Embudo and Dixon. From 2002 to 2004, local farmer and writer Harvey Frauenglass recorded interviews with 14 community members. The voices span the time period from the 1920s to the present. Summaries of these interviews are presented here for reading or downloading.

For many years, Charlotte Valdez has been documenting the history of the Embudo Presbyterian Mission. Here you will find a History of the Embudo Presbyterian Church that she has written. The history includes a timeline showing important events in the life of the church and in the Dixon/Embudo community.
Charlotte has also collected many photos and writings documenting the Mission history from it’s beginnings in 1889 to the present time. You will find the voices of missionary doctors and teachers and community members. You may recognize faces of your parents, grandparents or even yourself!
